Meeting Julie Ziglar Norman

Picture
Yesterday, September 20, 2012, I was attending the "Unstoppable Conference" in Sacramento, CA , hosted by "The Bam Project" , A Christian Business Women's Networking Organization.

This was the first night of a two day conference and was the first ever, for Bam! I was excited to be there with our Social Media Kiosk, to help spread the word about the  great things that were happening!

Upon entering, I had no idea what to expect. I was enjoying myself, listening to great worship music by Christian Artist, Amari, and meeting some incredible women. At one point during the conference, one of the hostesses, Barb Wilber tasked us with finding someone in the room that we had yet to meet, and scheduling a time to get to know them better.

Before I had time to stand up from my chair, this adorable, southern woman approached me and said, in her cute accent "I want to get to know you"!

Me? I was honored, because I had JUST looked at this woman's picture in the program for the conference and realized that she was now standing before me! It was none other than Julie Ziglar Norman! You, know the Ziglar name, don't you? She's the "daughter of the motivator’s motivator, Zig Ziglar"! And she was asking to get to know ME better! I was so excited and honored.

Unfortunately, we didn't have too much time to chat, as we were quickly asked to come back to the larger discussion. But we were able to talk on break and share a few laughs while she and some other ladies were being silly and posing for the Social Media Kiosk!

What's even more funny to me, is that the largest lesson I learned from my few hours at this conference, from Barb's key note and "Sacred Space" activity was that we are often living as what we are NOT, instead of what we are! We are constantly living in the world of "Im NOT Smart Enough", "Im NOT pretty Enough"etc, instead of who we really are!

When I was asked to write down my biggest "Who I am NOT" - it was "I am NOT Worthy". The funny thing is, I was worthy enough because Julie chose me out of over 50 women in a large room. She chose me, because for some reason she was drawn to me. And from that moment, I promised myself, to let myself be as worthy as other see me, and live with who I am vs. who I am NOT!

Rebecca
What a great story, I met Julie at the eWomen Conference some time ago and she is a fabulous woman!
More powerfully though, thank you for reminding us all that we are valuable! We are women, human, valuable. Kelli

Rebecca, one thing I have learned after many years of working with leaders and business owners is that even the most successful people struggle with the not enough soundtrack. Thanks for sharing your story! It's always good to know that we are not along in our thoughts.

Rebecca, it sounds like a great conference, and how fun to be surrounded by such powerful women. I had to smile at your biggest NOT, because that is probably what I would have thought and said.

I hope you'll share some other "aha" moments from the conference in future posts.

WOW Rebecca! That is a powerful story! And you ARE worthy! Thank you for reminding us that we are too, and that we should be living what we ARE and not what we are not.

What a very cool story Rebecca! Since this is the area I specialize in (claiming your worth!) the story was especially wonderful to read about. When we realize that we are worthy for just being who we really are - then that is liberating! Beautiful realization and sharing! Look forward to reading more developments from you and you claiming your WORTH!

Rebecca ... it's so easy to think and consider all of the things we believe we are not, and not believe the things we truly are. I think women are more apt to have this mindset than men ... for whatever reason. It's something we all have to deal with in our personal lives, our Christian walk and in business because it's what prevents us from doing things we want to do and know we should be doing. It's time we start looking and believing all of the things we really are and spending less time looking at what we believe we are not. Great post!

Thanks for sharing your story Rebecca -— the one we can see, and the one in your head. It's too easy to think about what we're not, instead all the brilliance we are. Appreciate the reminder!

Rebecca,
I was drawn to you immediately. Your smile and your presence made you so approachable. The joy and honor of meeting you is all mine.

I hope we can still have that meeting to get to know each other better. I was so sorry you could not stay for the whole conference.

Hugs and prayers for you as your worthiness is fully realized and embraced. You are precious to our Lord and I am sure to all who are blessed to know you!

Julie - do I really have an accent?
