9/27/2012 1 Comment Dear Facebookers,Yesterday, September 26, 2012, there was a message that began to circulate across Facebook News Feeds everywhere. It starts out with "Dear Facebookers".
While this is NOT a Hoax, it's not completely true for everyone. Here is what it says: "Dear Facebookers - Your private inbox messages are now visible for all to see, from 2009 and later. Your private messages are mixed in with your wall posts from friend's and family! This could get VERY awkward, very quickly...this is a new change from Facebook as of yesterday. Don't believe me? Read your timeline from those years...yikes! They look like wall posts.....they are not! " FACT: This is a change. There is a box that's labeled "Friends 2009" . Just under that stats how many friends posted on your TIMELINE (aka your wall) during that year. So far, I have yet to see any INBOX messages being exposed here. I have tested this on multiple profiles. HOWEVER, I do recommend that you check your timeline for each year as per the instructions below) and decide for yourself if you want to eradicate this feature from your timeline. I would be curious to know if you find any INBOX messages in this feature. I suspect that it would be caused by one of two things: 1) Your Message Privacy Settings or 2) a Facebook Flub. Regardless, "There's an easy fix--when you're in your own timeline, just click on the year on the right (2007, 2008, 2009, etc.) and you'll see a box with a bunch of friends' messages and a header that says 89 people have written on **'s timeline--hover over the right until you see the pencil, click and select hide from timeline. Do that for each year." This is from the Sacramento Bee- 9/27/2012
There has been great "buzz" around what employers and Universities in California can ask of their (potential) employees and students. Of course, most people feel as though it's a complete invasion of privacy, and puts people at risk for losing their current job, not getting into college or getting a job they have applied for. By signing these bills, it puts those fears to rest! According to the Sacramento Bee: "Gov. Jerry Brown signed two measures this morning to block California universities and employers from seeking access to applicants' social media accounts." "The Golden State is pioneering the social media revolution and these laws will protect all Californians from unwarranted invasions of their personal social media accounts," the Democratic governor said in a prepared statement. Assembly Bill 1844 and Senate Bill 1349 were signed!. This was the first night of a two day conference and was the first ever, for Bam! I was excited to be there with our Social Media Kiosk, to help spread the word about the great things that were happening! Upon entering, I had no idea what to expect. I was enjoying myself, listening to great worship music by Christian Artist, Amari, and meeting some incredible women. At one point during the conference, one of the hostesses, Barb Wilber tasked us with finding someone in the room that we had yet to meet, and scheduling a time to get to know them better. Before I had time to stand up from my chair, this adorable, southern woman approached me and said, in her cute accent "I want to get to know you"! Me? I was honored, because I had JUST looked at this woman's picture in the program for the conference and realized that she was now standing before me! It was none other than Julie Ziglar Norman! You, know the Ziglar name, don't you? She's the "daughter of the motivator’s motivator, Zig Ziglar"! And she was asking to get to know ME better! I was so excited and honored. Unfortunately, we didn't have too much time to chat, as we were quickly asked to come back to the larger discussion. But we were able to talk on break and share a few laughs while she and some other ladies were being silly and posing for the Social Media Kiosk! What's even more funny to me, is that the largest lesson I learned from my few hours at this conference, from Barb's key note and "Sacred Space" activity was that we are often living as what we are NOT, instead of what we are! We are constantly living in the world of "Im NOT Smart Enough", "Im NOT pretty Enough"etc, instead of who we really are! When I was asked to write down my biggest "Who I am NOT" - it was "I am NOT Worthy". The funny thing is, I was worthy enough because Julie chose me out of over 50 women in a large room. She chose me, because for some reason she was drawn to me. And from that moment, I promised myself, to let myself be as worthy as other see me, and live with who I am vs. who I am NOT! It's on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest and now, Instagram (to name a few). Some call it photo journalism, some picture marketing- either way, it goes back to the 'ole adage that "Picture speak 1,000 words". What if that same picture could be worth "1,000 Likes"? While pictures DO tell a story, and are now being seen on social media sites more than ANY OTHER type of "post"- you want to make sure that the message being sent, aligns with your brand! The folks at iSnap! came up with a great idea and came out with this amazing product: The Location Based Social Media Photo Kiosk ! What makes this so "amazing"?
Don't believe me? Just ask, Marissa Hodge, of West Sacramento Zumba! She had our kiosks out at a community event in West Sacramento! She got over 100 likes just by having the kiosk available for a few hours. She keeps the branded pictures recorded from the event, and now has 100 new people to connect with! Not to mention all of those who will "like" her page due to the fun that was seen by others from the posts! The bottom line: This new technology makes visual content marketing easy! **Disclosure: Rebecca Johnson and My Social Media Pro are distributors for iSnapSocial 9/4/2012 1 Comment The Hand Off TechniqueGot a little publicity for my Networking "Hand Off" Technique!
